Polgooth and Its People

A self-initiated film event as a response to connection with
place, reognising the wellbeing gained through an understanding of place. This was achieved through collaboration with
a community.

Sharing archive family cine film footage at an event that celebrates a village and its people over time. Curation of community memorabilia and an opportunity to extend the archive to the present day.

A visual indentity with a crafted nostalgic flavour unifies promotional materials, exhibition resources and a publication outcome.
A restrained contemporary palette engages new audience, capturing and celebrating community for years to come.

Introducing Denis May.

My Great Grandad.

Denis May’s cine films recorded the village within which he
lived and in which I have grown up: capturing village life and accompanied by his Cornish dialect voice over.

This is a unique design collaboration. Denis passed before
I was born. However, his films and narrative have enabled a partnership between us. They facilitate his presence within the project, guiding curational decisions and building a relationship. Despite our chronological distance. And it is this partnership that continues the legacy and relevance of this work.

Moving from publication to exhibition. This embraces the roots of celebratore sharing as well as providing the basis for others to run events similar.

There remains capacity to expand the project, venturing into other local communities or providing templates for others to
run similar events.
